Picking a puppy that's right for you

An overview of the journey to your newest family member:

  1. When you are ready to say yes, we want to learn about you and ask that you fill out our puppy application form.    Providing information on your lifestyle, personalities, and expectations helps us match you with a puppy.  That’s correct, we pick the puppy that is right for you. Through temperament testing and getting to know each of our families, we are confident in our ability to match each puppy with the best family for them to ensure both happy puppies and happy families.
  2. Once we receive your application you will be contacted to schedule a brief interview.
  3. Upon approval, we require a $100 (non-refundable) consultation fee.  This fee will be applied to the purchase price of your puppy and will reserve your spot in the line for puppy pick.
  4. When a litter is born, and it’s your turn on the wait list, we will contact you so that you may commit to this litter by providing a $500 deposit.    If you do not see your perfect puppy or the time is just not right, you may choose to pass and stay and maintain your status on the waitlist for the next upcoming litter.  Please know, if you choose to pass on a litter and remain on our list, you may be subject to a price increase, other than the original price quoted.
  5. Once you have committed to your chosen litter, we may schedule another interview with you during the first four to six weeks of the life of your pup.  We want to know more about your family so that we can pair the best puppy to your home.
  6. We have a private Facebook group, Zoe’s Doodles Puppy Parents, that we encourage you to join.  We have created an on-line community, a safe and supportive place to ask questions and for you to watch the puppies grow and witness all of our stimulation, socialization and enrichment exercises.
  7. Your puppy will go through Volhard’s puppy aptitude testing as well as BAB personality profiles and based on what personality type you desire, and suits your family situation best, we will provide you with a choice of one or two puppies that we have specifically matched to being best suited to you.
  8. Your puppy picks will be presented to you following aptitude testing, once the puppies reach seven weeks of age.
  9. Please be sure to thoroughly read our health guarantee, below.
  10. Final payment  is required prior to pick up day.
  11. To help yourself get ready for your new arrival we encourage you to review our shopping list and tips for when you bring your new puppy home.
  12. Between 8-9 weeks old, your puppy is ready to leave Zoe’s Doodles.  We will arrange for you to pick up your puppy on a pre-set homecoming date, which we will communicate to you once your puppy is born.

Rhonda's passion, commitment, and knowledge on Goldendoodles, breeding, genetics, ENS, training and more… has blown me away!

Our Health guarantee

Healthy Well Balanced Puppies

We strive to provide healthy, well-socialized puppies with great temperaments, that have all the necessary components for being a great family companion. Our breeding dogs are raised with the highest ethical standards, health-tested, and temperament-tested.

We test each parent breeding dog for a series of genetic issues to help guide us in breeding healthy puppies.  Zoe’s Doodles tests hips, elbows, cardiac and eyes through OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals), plus full genetic panels and coat traits on all our breeding dogs.  Health testing ensures that we are providing exceptional healthy puppies to our qualified families so you can enjoy your new family member for many years to come.

We raise our puppies in a manner that promotes confident, social behavior.  It’s important to us that you receive a healthy, well-balanced puppy, who has received the best start in life. Zoe’s Doodle puppies are born, nurtured, and raised in our home environment, where they are socialized with other pets and family members.

Early neurological stimulation (ESN) begins as young as three days old when puppies begin daily enrichment sessions. In addition to strengthening heart rates, decreasing blood pressure, increasing resistance to stress, and boosting the adrenal glands, these sessions provide numerous other benefits (such as improving their immune systems) which your Goldendoodle puppy will reap well into adulthood. In other words, we firmly believe in the health of our Goldendoodle puppies.

Included with your puppy, at the time of purchase, is a two-year genetic health warranty for any hereditary, congenital, or genetic defects that would seriously impact the quality of life/lifespan of the puppy. All puppies will go to their forever homes with age-appropriate vaccines, frequent de-worming, a registered micro-chip, and health exams.

We provide one-month free pet insurance with Trupanion.

All puppies are sold as companion pets only, with a strict spay/neuter contract, requiring them to be spay/neutered by 18 months, with the exception of our breeding puppies that go to our guardian homes.

Learn More About Health Testing

Under each of our breeding dog’s individual profiles, we have listed the results of their tests.  To help potential doodle owners further understand health testing, we have created an information page.

PREPARING TO BRING YOUR PUPPY HOME

CRATE

We prefer the wire fold down crates for training in our home and the plastic dome ones for travelling.  When bringing your pup home in a vehicle, we would recommend securing the pup in a crate, or being held by your co-pilot.  For the home crate, we usually start with a 24” crate and move up in size. The 36” wire crate is usually big enough for our adult doodles and they are available with a divider, so you could start with this and adjust as your pup grows.

EXERCISE PEN

We recommend you invest in an exercise pen, baby gate and/or folding room dividers.  Now, before your pup comes home and while you have the time, evaluate your room space and decide what you need to contain your pup.  Your pup will want to be in the same room with you.  We section off our home to make an area smaller to assist with potty training.  If we are in the kitchen, so is our pup. That way, we are aware if they starts sniffing about, and can run our pup outside to potty.

TIP: Winners has great dividers in their pet section, and they are dog friendly!  A great place to bring your pup for socialization and training.

FOOD

Our preferred kibble, and the one your pup will be on when they go home to you, is TLC. We did our research and tested it out with our own dogs for a full year and we highly recommend it. We love it for many reasons but here are a few:

  • It is Canadian made with all ingredients sourced in Canada, except the lamb and mussels, which are from New Zealand.
  • You won’t find it in a store, they ship directly to your door, for free!
  • The price point is great!
  • TLC has NEVER had a recall on any of their pet food.

Here is the link https://tlcpetfood.com/nutrition/zoesdoodles. Use this coupon code to save an additional $5 (one time use only). If you are part of a present litter, I will enter your name and email into their system, and they should send a reminder to you a week or more before your puppy comes home.

GROOMING

You will need a brush (either pin or slicker), metal comb, small rounded tip scissors and nail clippers. Your pup has had their nails trimmed weekly starting at 2 weeks of age.  We use human nail clippers to start with and go to the dog nail clippers around 3-4 months of age.

Finding a good groomer is important but routine brushing and trims are vital for keeping your pup safe and healthy between grooms. We use grooming as a bonding time for our pups. When we settle in for a family movie, we move to the floor and spend the time touching and stroking our doodles.

Chose a quiet time in your day for you and your pup. If they initially want to play with the brush, just smooth down their hair with the backside of the brush and always leave it on a positive note.

I urge you to keep this weekly routine of personal care for your puppy and to book an early 'introduction to the groomer' appointment. Most groomers really appreciate this initial time to ensure your puppy has a good experience creating the foundation for positive future relationships.

SOURCE OF FIBRE

Probiotics or 100% pure canned pumpkin is a great source of fiber and creates consistency in a doodle’s bowel movement.  We recommend one spoonful mixed with kibble twice a day for a puppy with diarrhea.

TIP: We freeze it in ice cube trays (like baby food) and store them in the freezer until we need some.

INSURANCE

Insurance, a great idea especially for the puppy stage or first year.  As a breeder, we have an agreement with Trupanion, where they will provide you with 30 days of pet insurance, completely free to you!  We will enter in your contact information and all you have to do is activate it within 24 hours of picking up your puppy, either before or after.  You do not have to provide a credit card or payment information.  You receive a  free month and one reminder to sign up, which is your choice.

We understand the excitement on puppy pickup day, so having the important stuff all taken care prior, can give you (and us) peace of mind and allow you to fully embrace the joy and excitement of your new family member.

your puppies first day with you

ALLOW YOUR PUPPY TIME TO ADUST AND BOND WITH YOU

Your puppy’s first day with their new family can be a very stressful day for them. They are leaving their litter mates, and being placed into a new environment with new people.  Your puppy may not eat or drink, and while this is normal, please make every effort to get them to drink water.

It is very important that your puppy not be stressed when you get them home. We ask that you comfort them so they feel safe and secure, but not too much!  It is best for your puppy to remain at the your home  until they have adjusted and settled into their new home before going out in public.  Meaning car rides, visiting family, etc.  It is recommended that all vaccinations are completed before walking on sidewalks or going to the park.

Please give your puppy a few days to adjust and bond with you before starting into any heavy training.

Enjoy your new puppy!
